Matthys, Larry A.

Larry Matthys began his legal career with a large insurance defense and subrogation firm that focused on trying lawsuits. After successfully trying numerous cases to verdict he was promoted to partner at an early age and asked to move to the firm's Corpus Christi office. He was tasked with creating and overseeing a docket consisting primarily of auto cases. He expanded that practice from one carrier to a volume business of cases from State Farm, Allstate and Farmers. After obtaining numerous successful verdicts in Nueces and surrounding counties for those carriers his practice expanded to include larger and more varied cases.

Larry Matthys is a seasoned trial lawyer. His extensive trial experience ranges from simple car accidents cases to trucking and transportation cases involving multiple fatalities and aggravating circumstances. He also has trial experience in premises liability, breach of contract, stock law and traumatic brain injury cases. He has handled complex refinery fire and explosion cases, dram shop cases, as well as complex construction defect cases.

Larry received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Houston. After graduation he began his career with a large San Antonio, Texas based insurance defense firm. He quickly rose to an equity partner position in that firm. He subsequently joined three other attorneys in forming an insurance defense firm in Corpus Christi Texas. He later moved back to San Antonio and opened his own insurance defense firm. After 17 years of successful solo practice, he was honored to join Ray, Pena McChristian as a shareholder.
